Our History

SMAHO ARTS Company & Guild was founded in August, 2002 by Shirvington Hannays. Shirvington wanted to create:-

A stage where diverse talented and willing performing arts artiste, can showcase the finer points of their craft and hone their skills.

An ungoing reflection of Toronto's and Canada's multi-ethnic faces in the very active and viable performing Arts industry in Toronto.
The group has successfully produced, stage and engaged in six (6) diverse projects for the stage, screen and community interaction. That included:-

Two plays; Trial of an Angel in 2003 and "Till I Find A Place" 2009.

Reached out into the community and performed for senior citizens in their residence with the SMAHO Caravan.

Sponsored and launched mini-film festival overseas to encourage visual documentation of everyday living.

Conducted annual ungoing group and personalized acting workshops.

Participated in hosting overseas emerging performing artists to experience the arts here in Toronto.

Sponsored three (3) emerging filmmakers to get their experiential films from script to screen.
Most of the above projected done with limited external funding but generous in-kind contribution, support and members participation. | |
